ERC grant to BiRC
The European Research Council (ERC) has granted approximately DKK 9 million to Thomas Martin Bataillon to develop better models for evolution.
“We don’t know whether adaptations occur via an existing genetic variation in the population, or whether there are newly arising beneficial mutations that create the necessary genetic variation. And we know even less about which factors actually limit the speed of adaptation. The answers to these questions are not only crucial for evolutionary biology – but are also crucial for whether we can produce reliable models for a population’s evolutionary potential,” said Thomas Bataillon in his project description. He is an evolutionary biologist at Aarhus University’s Bioinformatics Research Centre (BiRC).
