Abstract
Machine learning - powerful methods to make sense of our digital world Machine Learning seems to be everywhere. This talk gives an introduction to how machine learning allows us to analyze our digital world to predict events, identify trends, or extract complex relationships. I will present recent examples of our research in Machine Learning for applications such as document analysis. With the increasing application of machine learning in social decision-making, there is also a concern regarding the transparency and fairness of machine learning models. I will discuss some of our recent work on discrimination-aware machine learning that provides transparent balancing of these concerns.
