10:15 Walk through the University Park 

11:15 Visit BiRC, Universitetsbyen 81, 8000 Aarhus 

• Welcome and introduction to BiRC (11.15 - 12)
• Lunch (sandwiches)  (12 - 12.30) Some of our current master's students will join us
• Group photo (12.30 - 12.40)
• Presentation by a former student now living and working in Aarhus (12.40 - 13)
• Meet with some of our current students, some of our lecturers and staff membes  (13 - 15)

15:00 OWN TIME – we can suggest a coffee at Salling Rooftop, a visit to the Aros Rainbow Panorama, or a rest at the hotel 

16:00 OPTIONAL: Visit Basecamp (student housing close to the universtity). Get a tour of the dorm and its facilities. The tour will last approx. one hour. 

18:30 Dinner - restaurant will be announced later. Staff members and current students will join.

Covered Expenses for Your Visit

Aarhus University (BiRC/MBG) will cover the following expenses related to your visit:

Hotel: Two nights at Cabinn in Aarhus city from May 20-22. You will have a single room with private bathroom and breakfast included. If you need additional nights we can try to help you book this, but you must pay yourself. For questions, please contact Ellen Noer at elno@birc.au.dk.

Transportation: Transportation costs up to €150 for flight, train or bus on economy class will be covered by Aarhus University. Please make your own booking, and remember to save your receipts! Without the receipts, you cannot get the expenses covered. 

Meals: Breakfast is included at the hotel. All meals included in the program will be paid by the university.

Reimbursement: After the event, you will receive a link to a portal where you need to upload your receipt(s) and provide your bank information. It may take up to 14 days from the claim is made until you have the money in your account.

Getting to Aarhus

If you're arriving by plane, you have three main airport options:

• Aarhus Airport, Tirstrup (AAR) The airport situated closest to Aarhus, but it's small and has only few connections. Transportation time to the city of Aarhus is approximately 45 minutes by bus.
   
• Billund Airport (BLL) A slightly bigger airport, with more connections. The transportation time by bus is approximately one hour and a half to the city of Aarhus.
   
• Copenhagen Airports (CPH) A large airport with lots of connections. You can continue to Aarhus by domestic flight, train or bus. Flight time to Aarhus Airport is 40 minutes, but train is often easier. The direct train from Copenhagen Airport to central Aarhus is about three and a half hours.
   
• Trains in Denmark are operated by DSB. You can buy tickets online or in the ticket machines at each station. Tickets must be purchased before you get on the train. Get off at Aarhus H (Aarhus Central Station).

If you prefer traveling by bus, FlixBus offers long-distance routes across Denmark and Europe, including service to Aarhus.

Hotel Accommodation

You will stay two nights at Cabinn in Aarhus city. We will book single rooms with private bathroom. The hotel is located in the city centre - about 10 minutes walk from the train station and bus terminal. Hotel adress: CABINN Aarhus, Kannikegade 14, 8000 Aarhus.

Getting to BiRC, Aarhus University

The Section for Bioinformatics (BiRC), part of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Aarhus University, is located at:

Aarhus is a highly walkable city, and it takes approximately 35–40 minutes to walk from the city centre to the department.

Alternatively, you can use public transport. Several city buses and the light rail (Letbanen) serve the university area. To plan your journey, you can use apps such as Rejseplanen or Google Maps.

Tickets for all forms of public transport in Denmark can be purchased via the RejseBillet app, which is available in both Danish and English.
