Congratulations on your acceptance to our MSc in Bioinformatics! We are delighted that you applied to Aarhus University, and we hope to see you here this autumn.

The Aarhus University BiRC visit includes a three-day visit in Aarhus from May 22-24 to give you an opportunity to get to know the city and the centre a bit better, and to show you that Aarhus University is the right option for you.

During your visit, you - and the other international students - will meet some of our staff members and current students, and you will get to visit a selected partner company, which will present some of the amazing job opportunities they offer both graduates and students from our centre.

We hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn more about our us, Aarhus University, and the wonderful City of Aarhus.

May 22

Arrival and check-in at hotel Wakeup Aarhus, M.P. Bruuns Gade 27, 8000 Aarhus.

17:30 Welcome – we meet at the hotel reception and walk to dinner together.

18:00 Dinner at Aarhus Street Food, Ny Banegaardsgade 46, 8000 Aarhus.

May 23

09.00 Visit Aarhus University and the International Centre

  • Learn more about what Aarhus University and Aarhus offers you as an international student.  
  •  Meet with the AU Housing team and find out how you find suitable housing during your stay in Aarhus.

Reimbursements

The University (BiRC/MBG) will cover the following expenses for your visit;

Hotel: Two nights at hotel Wakeup Aarhus in Aarhus city will be booked from May 22-24. If you need additional nights we can help you book this, but you must pay yourself. For questions please contact Ellen Noer (elno@birc.au.dk)

Transportation: Transportation costs up to €100 for flight, train or bus on economy class will be covered by Aarhus University. Please make your own booking, and remember to save your receipts! 

Food: There will be breakfast at the hotel. All meals included in the program will be paid by the university.

Reimbursement:  After the event, you will receive a link to a portal where you need to upload your receipt(s) and provide your bank information.

Transportation

Getting to Aarhus:

Three options if you arrive by airplane

  • Aarhus Airport, Tirstrup (AAR): The airport situated closest to Aarhus, but it's small and has only few connections. Transportation time to the city of Aarhus is approximately 45 minutes by bus.
  • Billund Airport (BLL) A slightly bigger airport, with more connections. The transportation time by bus is approximately one hour and a half to the city of Aarhus.
  • Copenhagen Airports (CPH) A large airport with lots of connections. You can continue to Aarhus by domestic flight, train or bus. Flight time to Aarhus Airport is 40 minutes, but train is often easier. The direct train from Copenhagen Airport to central Aarhus is about three and a half hours.

Trains in Denmark are operated by DSB. You can buy tickets online or in the ticket machines at each station. Tickets must be purchased before you get on the train. Get off at Aarhus H.

If you need to cross the country by bus you can use Flix Bus.

The hotel:

You will stay two nights at hotel Wakeup Aarhus in Aarhus city, M.P. Bruuns Gade. We will book single rooms with private bathrooms and breakfast. The hotel is only a short walk from the train station and bus terminal.
