Profile

I am a medical doctor with a particular interest in cancers of the ear, nose, and throat region. My scientific work primarily focuses on patients with head and neck cancer, especially cancer of unknown primary tumor. I completed my PhD at the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and the Department of Experimental Clinical Oncology at Aarhus University Hospital in this field. Additionally, I am an active member of the Danish Head and Neck Cancer Group (DAHANCA).

Research

My work centers on unknown primary tumors in the head and neck area, particularly in patients with squamous cell carcinoma. Utilizing national registry data, I strive to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of this patient group. My efforts help update Danish guidelines with the latest evidence-based knowledge, ensuring effective diagnosis and treatment, thereby maximizing patient survival with minimal long-term effects.

Teaching activities

I have presented my research at leading head and neck cancer conferences, including ESTRO (European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology) and ECHNO (European Congress on Head and Neck Oncology), and has been honored to serve as an invited speaker for SSHNO (Scandinavian Society for Head and Neck Oncology) and Young EHNS (European Head and Neck Society).

I teach medical students in the field of ear, nose, and throat diseases. Through case-based group teaching, my goal is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of otorhinolaryngology. This aims to generate interest in the field and ensure future recruitment to the specialty. Additionally, it helps future doctors in other specialties manage simple ENT issues and know when to refer patients to a specialist.

Collaborations

I am affiliated with the DAHANCA group and DSHHO (Danish Society for Head and Neck Oncology) and collaborate with these national groups to develop guidelines for head and neck cancer under DMCG.

Job responsibilities

On a daily basis, I work as a senior registrar specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions within the ear, nose, and throat area at the Department of Otolaryngology in Gødstrup. I will complete my specialist training in otorhinolaryngology on October 31, 2025.

I actively contribute to the Danish Head and Neck Cancer Group (DAHANCA), working to improve treatment strategies and enhance patient care. In this work, I focus particularly on describing the surgical and chemoradiotherapeutic treatment effectiveness in large Danish cohorts of patients with squamous cell carcinoma. My work contributes to qualifying the new Danish guidelines in the field of head and neck cancer, and I am also personally involved in the development of these guidelines.
